Forum Title: Cutting Vinyl Door

We are laying tile but our front door is too low. We would like to trim 1/2 inch from bottom of door, replace the fins and raise the part of threshold that contacts the fins. The door has lites on both sides and the threshold spans the whole width so I cannot raise the threshold itself. I have the following questions: - Is there a 'best practice' way to raise the part of threshold that seals against fins? - Are there any tricks to cutting vinyl door and should I expect wood or something else when I cut 1/2 from bottom? Thanks!

There are specific kits for this purpose.To some degree it would depend on the specifics of your existing lock but with measurements etc you should be able to find a kit that will work.I'm not sure big box stores would carry these but locksmiths and old time real hardware stores might.Plus there would be knowledgeable people to help you.

The best practice would be (as Bill mentioned) to uninstall the entire door unit (and sidelights, if they are common mulled) lay 1/2 plywood across the bottom of the rough opening, flash and reinstall the door unit.
